Treasure haunting, chasing and deck fighting are the things people fanaticized about sea rovers. The iconic image of sCaptain Jack Sparrow from the movie series ‘Pirates of Caribbean’ too has helped in popularizing the pirate character. If you are the person seeking for costumes of these adventures people of renaissance and medieval era, follow the below mentioned steps.

1.The first thing you need is a shirt preferably in white color. Although other colors are also welcomed, but white is synonym to pirate shirts. Shirt must have long sleeves and series of buttons in front. Take a baggier one and while wearing leave one or two a buttons from top. Sea rovers were not the type of people who took cleansing seriously, so apply some stains (blood like) on your shirt, you can even tear it. If you are able to get a shirt with ruffles on collar, consider yourself luckier.

2.If it is white color for shirt then black for pants. Yes, the basic pirate clothing need is completed by black color pant with white shirt. A fitting or baggy pant, both are in options to choose. In fitting pants don’t go for tight, your pant must be fit enough to snug skin just like Gothic Death Pants, not make you feel uncomfortable. Another option to go for is loose baggy pants, for example Harem Pants. Cut it from the bottom in zigzag patterns and apply some red stains in the uncovered part.

3.Female who want to dress as pirate can use skirt then go for it. Make use of black color skirt in long or short length. Want to appear elegant in sea rover dress, choose for peasant style long skirt. Short skirt will make you a glamorous pirate. Take a knee length short skirt, cut it from the bottom and be a chic sea rover.

4.The next basic thing of sea rover attire is boots. Pirate boots in black or brown color will suit most. Try to search for leather boots folded at the top. Especially designed websites for boots such as BuyPirateBoots.Com will help you to get the right footwear.

5.Accessories the other costumes for instance hat preferably in tricorn shape, bandana in black or red color, belt or sash, loop earrings and jewelries. Lastly, don’t forget to take a pirate sword.

Follow the above provided steps and get an authentic pirate appearance.

Dressing Styles of Famous Pirates

http://www.buypirateboots.com/blog/dressing-styles-of-famous-pirates.html

http://www.buypirateboots.com/blog/dressing-styles-of-famous-pirates.html#respond

http://www.buypirateboots.com/index.php/blog/?p=152

Renaissance costumes show us the height of creative imaginations of the skilled designers of bygone eras. They spend most of their time in oceans sailing ships and doing their main job of piracy. They leaved on the looted items from others ship or towns. Pirates were not bound to the laws of the land and preferred to wear clothing of those fabrics which were not meant for any class other then nobles. Especially the captains used to wear the dresses which were on the line of wealthier people.

Like fabrics, in case of colors also they preferred those which were banned and only meant for upper class people. Some of these colors were purple, violet, crimson and deep blue. Out of various pirates Black Bart was most famous flamboyant dresser. He wore waistcoat and breeches of velvet in crimson color and a red colored exotic feather in hat. He also used to wear extravagant sash not one but two. His sash was made of leather and satin, one embellishing his coat in front diagonally and second wrapped around waist and as embellishments his costumes were adorned with valuable metals and other ornate.

Let us a take a closer look into some very interesting pirate dresses. Motley clothing was remembered as bright but mismatched clothes. Their doublets and coats were long in length, embellished with expensive fabrics and ornaments and were very stylish in look. His pirate shirts were puffy and drawers had tight fit to allow tough activities. Breeches were loose fitting trousers while waistcoats were only flashy addition to their attire. Bandana, cap or tri-cornered hat and stockings were the part of their elaborate dress. In accessories they had boots like thigh high boots but when they were on deck they went barefoot to make their foot’s hold strong on deck while combating with opponents.

Some of their other accessories were sash, scarves, fancy buttons, pirate belts, buckles, wigs, braids and ribbons, gold hoop earrings. In this period expansion of trading through sea was thriving so the pirates’ activities. Pirates who were active during the age of exploration are synonyms with particular style of pirate clothing. But there are many other costumes like pirate shirts available today in markets which are straight from fictional characters. Any person who has knowledge about medieval history can differentiate the costumes of real and fictional pirates. Also fictitious but well known apparel has created a stereotype for pirates. But in actual, pirate clothing were the result of necessity and suited their way of life.

Pirates were unemployed seamen. During the time of war sailors were in demand while on peacetime those sailors were no longer needed by rulers, therefore such sailors turned to piracy. Elizabethan Sumptuary Laws which were based on the colors and material of fabrics was forced for easy recognition of people belonging to different level of society but by now sea robbers were habitual in disobeying rules of land. Especially successful and wealthy pirates show great amount of interest in mocking Elizabethan Sumptuary Laws. They wore flamboyant costumes made from expensive fabrics of fine velvets, brocade, taffeta, sarcanet, damask and silk which were only suppose to be worn by people of upper strata.

Fabrics of pirate dresses were directly related to their wealth and kind of costume they stole. However on basic ground, there were no rules attached to their costumes. Common pirates used to wear whatever they get from hijacking others ships therefore clothes they wore were ill fitted and mismatched with multicolor. While during fighting they preferred to wear tight fitting clothes as loose fitted could cause harmful for them. Clothing of ordinary pirates comprise of linen, wool, shipskin, cotton, leather and canvas.

The lives of sea robbers were adventures and at the same time difficult therefore their stories are filled with battles, merciless acts and notoriety. You can use the salty, crusty dialect of pirates to communicate with others. Apart from dialect you need to pay attention to mannerism and clothing of pirates. Actually, people have very common opinion about pirates - they are dirty, shaggy and dressed in loose fitting attire, support same look throughout their life and mostly male dominated but despite the male domination women too were succeeded in maintaining their position in such a notorious profession. It means women too can act like pirates, in my opinion pirate were ageless and genderless.

Pirate look are so popular in renaissance festivals and other theme base parties that every second person aspires to enact like pirate and due to this reason pirate related costumes are on high demand along with associated accessories.

It is well known fact that pirate didn’t have any particular sense of styling. They wore the clothing whatever they get from raided ship. Only a few higher ranked pirates had consistent dressing style. Pirates’ styles were depended on clothing they found from loot. Green, dark orange, brown and black were preferred colors for pants while white, blue, red and purple are considered for shirt. You can take any other renaissance shirt that gives an impression of pirate shirt. Bearing in mind the pirate’s look, buy costumes which are one size larger to you.

Give the real impact to your pirate look with brown or black pirate boot and an eye patch. Pirate boots are too available for both men and women almost on all sizes and designs but the most popular are knee high pirate boots, women thigh high renaissance style boots and fold over boots. It was almost impossible for pirates to fights against opponents with those shoes or boots on deck. They prefer to fight off shoes for better grip on deck. But when they were on land or not fighting shoes or boots were part of their costume.

Shoes and boots are one part of pirate accessories other accessories are eye patch, pirate swords and cutlasses or gun, gold plated earrings in hoop shape, fake protruding teeth, bandana sash and a headwear. One minute! May be we are forgetting some other things – O yes, how can we forget a bottle of rum and a rope. Pirates were on sail with a bottle of rum in one hand and loop of rope on the other hand’s shoulder which was long enough to wrap around waist.

Everyone knows about ‘Pirates of Caribbean’ movie series and the iconic image of Captain Jack Sparrow played by Johnny Deep. If you are still confused then you can take some tips from his look to arrange pirate costume. If not then you should. It is the best way of knowing and celebrating the glorious past. Some people attend it on regular basis and some get once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend it. One can enjoy the food, plays based on the life of famous figure and other activities like juggling, acrobatic etc. but the main attraction of whole fair is medieval renaissance costumes. The whole atmosphere, people attired in different colorful costumes, tunes of musical instrument, food, plays look completely so medieval and enchanting.Medieval Boots have their big role in making renaissance festivals and other events based on them popular. Without them such fairs will look dull and boring. The way medieval costumes are the life of these reenactments; in the same manner life of medieval clothing are accessories. Without accessories renaissance costumes not only look dull and boring but incomplete also. They can add a nudge to simple clothing. If used in proper way they can improve your medieval renaissance costumes otherwise can hamper the appearance of costume.

Accessories are must for renaissance clothing and below we give you the reason why.

While attending such events, have you ever felt that you have very ordinary costume? A costume that runs from neck to ground in one color or plain or you have worn something too predictable. As said above accessories improve the look of very ordinary looking costumes. Accessories break the rule that a particular design of a costume makes. From a blend outfit, it makes a wardrobe completely different. Something new and interesting to see and because they are available in more colors and textures you can make different outfit from a single one.

You cannot imagine a pirate without its different styles of weapons or a knight without a sword. A king’s status is incomplete without his crown. What I want to say is “accessories make things more realistic”. After all we just don’t want to act like a person that we are portraying but also want to look like them, the way they looked. Wearing a plain cloth in name of medieval shirts while enacting as a famous figure will only portray us as rude and less emotive. We know that when a well dressed person in a renaissance costume wears crown and holds sword he will act like a king. In the same manner if a person covered with armory and chain mails and has a sword in hand he will definitely playing a knight.

Accessories not only improve the overall look of enactor but also improve the clothing whether it is color, texture or size. For instance without arm garters long sleeves will kook simple but after using it the same will look as if it has more ruffles and variation.

Accessories are the great rescuer for the people who have got simple cloth to wear in costume themed events. So, for the upcoming events of renaissance fairs and other costumes based events, buy some very authentic range of accessories to look exactly what you want.

Fancy Pirate Shirt Costumes

http://www.buypirateboots.com/blog/fancy-pirate-shirt-costumes.html

http://www.buypirateboots.com/blog/fancy-pirate-shirt-costumes.html#respond

http://www.buypirateboots.com/index.php/blog/?p=83

When we talk about pirates, a seaman with long loose shirt and loose pants with flat or short heel boots comes in our mind. Much of the pirate shirts were developed through necessity, but gradually it created a pirate stereotype.

There is little evidence of the renaissance clothing of common seamen in the pirate crew, but it is believed that they used to dress similarly to other seamen of the period as they were also seamen. However, some pictures of seamen of that time shows common seamen in the pirate crew dressed like a ragtag bunch. They, actually, used to wear cloths stolen from sea travelers. That is why their pants and coats were often loose. Pirate Pants were generally called breeches. Pirate costumes were accessorized with knitted caps called Monmouth caps, bracelets, chains, ribbons and braids and the like in the medieval era.Famous weapons that accompanied pirate dresses included the pirate cutlass- a heavy curved sword, daggers- often held in the leather belts and pistols.

Medieval clothing bore the impression of Elizabethan Sumptuary Laws that declared the color of clothing and fabrics which could be used by each social level. The Sumptuary Laws were made to make it easy and immediate way to identify the rank and privilege of a person in the society. Use of some colors such as crimson, violet, purple and deep blue was banned for the lower and middle strata.

However, pirate, renaissance particularly the successful and wealthy pirate captains, took great delight in flouting the Elizabethan Sumptuary Laws. They joyfully made use of the banned colors and fabrics. There dresses were gaudy. They would wear breeches made of fine velvet. A satin and leather sash would run across pirate captain’s coat, which used to be decorated with precious stones such as ruby and metals like gold. They would also wear waistcoats, which were allowed only for upper class. Pirate captains preferred over-the-knee boots, flat or short heel boots during their dangerous and long sea voyages as that kind of boots were very helpful to them in dangerous acts.

There was a purpose behind the way pirate captains prefer such a flamboyant style of renaissance clothing.
