Can you imagine the middle-age pirates in the Willamette River? You can see them in imagination now if you visit Portland’s Waterfront Park. A sailboat named Belle Della is in the Willamette for the past 2 weeks under the flag of the sea robbers. Ivan Anderson is the captain of that sailboat. He, his daughter Polly Hyke and her husband set sail on June 23 from St. Johns neighborhood of North Portland with their yacht. Anderson said that they are not the pirates, but it is a good idea to unite under a good flag. It has been done for the preparation of 25th annual Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival. A lot of people had arrived on Monday. Many others had arrived on 4th July for the festival. The festival has been begun on 4th July, and it will end on 8th July.
Jonosik is among the people will turn the four days festival into a multi-week event. His daughter Polly Hyke said that it is like one big boat, and it is a spontaneous community.
The day start starts with coffee and continues lazing around the boat’s deck. Community breakfast is also organized sometimes between neighboring boats. People visit in different ships and then file into a cabin for bacon and eggs. Thereafter, chores are done for inspecting the boat for understanding about the things that are required t be repaired. The noon starts with beer or wine. Lunch comes next, and there may be community barbecue in the night. According to Hyke, people visit for the party and friendship. He said that everyone comes along, including the pirates.
The company of about 10 boats is there all of which are captained by men who are living on water all the time. Vessel of Anderson is most distinguishable of the group. It was built in 1997. Its ranging and masts have not yet been set up in order to make its appearance stark.
Anderson very much looks like Captain Jack Sparrow, a fictional pirate of a Hollywood movie, brought to life by actor Johnny Depp. He has long brown hair, which are usually covered with a black scarf. He has thin beard and scraggly on cheeks. The right eyebrow’s end has a silver ring. Moreover, he has the tattoos beneath his flower painted shirt. He grew up in Portland and is a licensed marine master.
The costume like Jack Sparrow worn by Anderson is being popular among the lovers of the pirate lifestyle. This fictional character has become a benchmark for them. His costumes are available for every age group, and for both males and females. Moreover, his other accessories are also becoming popular such as wig, hat, boots and moustache goatee etc.
